Ramadan and Covid-19 1- COVID-19 As it stands, the Government will look at the existing stay at home measures in a few weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows this is possible. As a reminder, the measures are:  requiring people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes.  closing non-essential shops and community spaces.  stopping all gatherings of more than two people in public. In the meantime, please stay updated with the supporting guidance on social distancing, 2- Ramadhan tips With restrictions on our daily living and more time spent at home, let us seize the moment spiritually. With Sha’baan already here and Ramadhan drawing near, let us make our own personal plan to get the most out of this Ramadhan. We should all strive to connect with the Qur’an. As the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Verily Allah has His own people among mankind.” They said: O Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said: “They are the people of the Qur’an, Allah’s own people and those who are closest to Him.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah. Often you hear that memorising the Qur’an is hard. Remember, Allah, exalted and blessed is He, says: ‘And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember; then is there anyone who will remember (or receive admonition)?’ (54:17). As a reminder to ourselves first and foremost, we would like to share some tips that can followed and implemented during Ramadhan, insha Allah:  Be sincere and renew your intention: for the sake of Allah SWT alone.  Seek Allah’s help: when you embark on this journey with the Qur’an. Turn to Allah, the Quran is His speech and He alone can aid you in memorising it. A helpful dua which the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) taught Mu’adh (May Allah Reward him) to say in every salah before the tasleem is: اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ، وَشُكْرِكَ، وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِك “Allâhumma a’innî alâ dhikrika, wa shukrika, wa husni ‘ibâdatika O Allah, help me remember You, to be grateful to You, and to worship You in an excellent manner  Find a Qur’an teacher/source a buddy: to help you correct your pronunciation and reading or even motivate you to memorise: Madrasahs and teachers are offering online classes. It is a great opportunity for us and we should enrol in classes if we are able.  Be strict with your flexible schedule: This is a difficult one though it is important to have a spiritual schedule. Only you can tailor a plan for yourself but carve out a time which suits you to focus on the Qur’an. Decide how much you would like to memorise and go for it. Remember Allah SWT, the Most Merciful, rewards his slaves for good intentions even if they are somehow prevented from acting upon them. 3- Look after yourself Duas/Surahs  As we have now entered into the final month before Ramadhan, think about how to prepare for the blessed month and in particular ponder on your relationship with your maker, Allah SWT, exalted and blessed is He. Narrated by Abu Dawood: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never used to fast any complete month in the year, apart from Sha’baan, which he used to join to Ramadaan.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2048.  Helpful dua to memorise: اللهمَّ بلِّغْنا رَمَضَان Oh Allah, let us reach Ramadan.  The Prophet Muhammad said: “He who recites three times every morning and evening: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma’as-mihi shai’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i, wa Huwas-Sami’ul-‘Alim [in the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing], nothing will harm him” (Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi).  Abdullah ibn Khubaib (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: “The Messenger of Allah said to me, “Recite Surat Al-Ikhlas and Al- Muawwidhatain (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) three times at dawn and dusk. It will suffice you in all respects” (Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi). 4- Feedback  Do you like what you see? What can we do better? Please give us your feedback by. We are particularly interested in hearing about issues faced by our members. Is there anything in particular you would like us to support you during this period? Jazkom Allah Khira
