(Quran 10:107) HOW IS COVID 19 DIFFERENT? Previous disasters could be seen Tsunamis Earthquakes Volcanos Hurricanes Fires This enemy cannot be seen This time the enemy is so small it cannot be seen except with an electron microscope Size 120 nm (120-9 m) 7 RESPONSES – MUST DO 1)Nothing happens except by Allah’s will 2)Act responsibly 3)Adopt adequate precautions 4)Remain positive and optimistic 5)Guard against becoming paranoid 6)Sorrow, Istigfar, Dua and Donations 7)Use lockdown time wisely NO.1) NOTHING HAPPENS EXCEPT BY ALLAH’S WILL COVID 19 seems indiscriminate and uncontrollable We believe Allah is the master of the universe Allah is in control of everything, even a leaf falling Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely. (Quran 9:51)Must believe NO 2 ) ACT RESPONSIBLY Cause no harm nor harm yourself (Malik) Two aspects to this hadith 1)Do not harm others by exposing them to possible virus 2)Do not harm yourself by not taking precautions. Must take precautions NO 3) ADOPT ADEQUATE PRECAUTIONS Flee from communicable disease as you would run away from a lion (Bukhari). Hadith shows urgency Tie the camel first then have Tawakkul (Tirmizi) We must obey government guidelines – Sharee and Moral duty Stay indoors No unnecessary travel Social Distancing. Must NO 4) REMAIN POSITIVE AND OPTIMISTIC Allah has sent down both the disease and the cure. And He has sent appointed a cure for every disease, so treat yourself medically, but use nothing unlawful (Abu Dawood). Very powerful Islam encourages scientific research Ignorance is alien to Islam Concept of incurable disease is alien to Islam NO 5) GUARD AGAINST BECOMING PARANOID 65:2-3 Who so ever is conscious of Allah, He will find a way out for him (from difficulty) and He provide for him from sources He never imagined Fear should not drive one to irrationality Do not lose hope in Allah Do not spread rumours, speculation and unverified news, Must adhere NO 6) SORROW, ISTIGFAR, DUA AND DONATION Sorrow •Reflect on how close we are to Allah. True sorrow •How we all treat each other •We did not offer Salaat regularly •We did not frequent Masaajids Istigfar Ask for true forgiveness. Must Repent such that you we will not go back to our old ways Dua Continuous duas – Specially at night and Tahajjud.
